Curriculum

The Curriculum

Little Steps Montessori is committed to offering the children in its care a comprehensive play based and Montessori curriculum. This is combined with other good practice methods

“Encouraging each child’s holistic development and learning requires the implantation of a verifiable, broad-based, documented and flexible curriculum or programme” Siolta – the National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education

“Active learning, relationships, play, language, and meaningful experiences are priorities for supporting children’s early learning and development”. Aistear-The early Childhood Curriculum Framework. We also engage in controlled risk taking in the outdoor area where, under supervision, children will walk to the school environs.

Little Steps Montessori offers a range of learning opportunities to children, which are appropriate to the child’s stage of development. The service is fully committed to being guided by the principles of Siolta and the curriculum framework Aistear.

We recognise how important high-quality early childhood experiences can be in children’s lives. This Curriculum aims to encourage active learning, problem solving, effective communication, creativity and socialization. It aims to give children a good start which will benefit their long-term success in life. Little Steps Montessori recognises the diversity of experiences and relationships that shape children’s lives.  For more information please see our full policy.

Buntús  – We use Buntús as part of our curriculum programme.  This is a comprehensive physical activity programme for children aged 2-5 years old.  It has been designed to provide a wide range of learning opportunities for young children to develop their fundamental motor skills, manipulative skills, co-ordination and balancing skills and develop a positive attitude to physical activity.

Exercise & Movement – We are newly offering exercise and dance programmes which are fun and helps with balance and co-ordination. An outside body will be coming weekly to perform these classes i.e Kindergym. Parents will be required to pay a small fee for their child to attend this class.
